Day 3 Day 3 began with the traditional, local 5AM call to prayer, followed some hours later by orientation. After lunch, two of us went off to the UN in search of (hard to believe, given what we were already carrying) more medicine. The rest went off to set-up the clinic in a devastated area 14 km away from Banda. We all met up just after 3 PM at the clinic site. The place was humming. by 5:30, we had seen upwards of 60 patients, some quite ill. Lonnie did triage; Irene, Kathryn, Dea, Sally, Greg, and Tara did pharmacy; Martha did post-traumatic stress and grief counseling; Phil, Betsy, Grace, Kim, and Madelaine manned the treatment stations, and of course Frank encouraged us all. Highlights included a rousing cheer by Greg and the kids at the clinic, Martha holding her clients rapt and engaged in counseling and the lovely people of Banda as you can see in the photos. We were ably assisted by expert translators (often versed in multiple dialects). And we all felt held-up by you all in prayer. |
