Day 10
Today we set up our final mobile clinic in a community center for a refugee camp with over 800 members. Our hearts were full to hear their heartfelt stories of their lives in the last 5 months. We heard many stories of loss and pain, struggle and anguish. Our hearts ached as their journeys unfolded. We saw over 100 people and dispensed over 350 prescriptions from the pharmacy.
The pharmacy is an integral part of the mobile medical team. We carry 15-18 duffle bags full of medications and supplies to support the primary care providers. We dispense on average 3-4 medications per patient and many of the scripts have to be counted, mixed, and placed in the appropriate size containers. We provide a great variety of medications, including antibiotics, antifungals, antihistamines, anti-inflammatory, soaps, and vitamins. We are grateful for the over $39,000 worth of medications that we were able to acquire from American organizations that supply international medical teams. The process of filling the many prescriptions requires much energy and effort by the professional support staff.
The community leaders came to the clinic and learned about the complex process of filling the many prescriptions in pharmacy. The leaders were so interested and grateful for the clinic that they requested that we return the next day!
